Oracle Cloud data springs to life with interactive AR city
Oracle Cloud AR city showcase
Oracle commissioned Zubr to design and deliver an augmented reality installation for the reception area of its UK headquarters. The goal was to create an innovation showcase that would vividly demonstrate the power of Oracle Cloud data services and the breadth of its client base to visiting prospects, partners, and stakeholders.
The result was an interactive AR experience that transformed a physical platform into a living digital city – a compelling visual metaphor for how Oracle’s technology connects organisations, infrastructure, and people. By embedding real client stories into the cityscape, the experience positioned Oracle as a technology provider and enabler of national infrastructure, public services, and commercial innovation.
Partners
This project was delivered in close collaboration with the Oracle UK team, featuring content from Oracle customers including YellowDog, Interactive Scientific, TravelTime (formerly IGeolise), Network Rail and more.
The 3D AR cityscape experience
Visitors could engage with the installation using custom AR binoculars, a precursor to our handheld models on offer today. The binoculars were provided as part of the display: by scanning a custom designed tracking image on the platform, a detailed miniature city materialised before them.
The city was designed to be both playful and informative, with animated cars navigating the roads and trains moving along rail networks. These dynamic elements created a sense of scale and activity.
Buildings represented real Oracle clients, including Network Rail, Kent County Council and Yellow Dog. Selecting a building triggered a “fly-down” transition into ultra-high-resolution 360° imagery, allowing visitors to explore each client story in depth.
Visual design and technical insights
Initial designs included a board game-style tracking image and a bold red colour palette to align with Oracle’s brand colours. However, our updated iteration introduced a futuristic silver colour palette and refined AR visuals for an immersive, ultra-modern feel.
This approach delivered a sleek visual identity that complemented the reception environment while maximising clarity through the headset optics. Our team has extensive experience designing accessible user interfaces for diverse audiences, incorporating features such as high-contrast to ensure optimal visuals for all users.
Zubr also optimised 3D assets to perform reliably on modified AR/VR headsets, to ensure a seamless user experience. It was essential that we captured multiple 100-megapixel 360° photographs to ensure striking visuals of each digitally represented client building during close-up exploration during fly-down scenes.
A warm visitor welcome
The AR City installation provided Oracle with a striking centrepiece for client engagement, transforming customer success stories into a tangible, explorable environment. By presenting complex case studies as an accessible and intuitive interactive experience, the installation enabled visitors to quickly grasp the scale, diversity, and real-world impact of Oracle’s work.
Delivered by Zubr within an unusually constrained timeframe, the project progressed from initial concept and design through to development and on-site installation in just two months – demonstrating both Zubr’s technical agility and efficient production.
The innovation showcase was further enhanced by an interactive augmented reality model of the Bloodhound LSR vehicle, highlighting Oracle’s high-speed data capabilities and reinforcing the breadth of industries supported by its Cloud technologies.
Together, these experiences created a memorable, conversation-driven introduction to Oracle’s portfolio, setting the tone for each visitor’s experience from the moment they arrived.
