Theme park Augmented Reality: Zubr binoculars at Europa Park
Zubr has embarked on an exciting journey to Germany, collaborating with Europa Park to enhance their visitor experience through an innovative theme park augmented reality trail. In order to create an engaging experience to captivate guests, Zubr has developed a unique augmented reality addition to the Yomi Adventure Trail which provides an unforgettable touch of magic for explorers of all ages.
Throughout the trail, Zubr’s pioneering AR binoculars have transformed the park’s landscape into a mystical and interactive realm for all the family to enjoy. Revealing an intriguing cast of mystical characters within the Austrian themed area of the park, visitors can peek through the binoculars for a surprising AR experience which compliments the raging rivers, majestic rocks and whizzing railway of the alpine mountain world.

The Yomi Adventure Trail has been developed through the collaboration of Zubr, Mack Animation and Europa Park, one of Europe’s premier theme parks. Known for its immersive attractions and themed areas, Europa Park provided the perfect backdrop for an imaginative AR experience.
Explore the magical Valley of Diamonds
Throughout the park, we installed three AR binoculars, strategically placed along the new Yomi Adventure Trail. The binoculars guide visitors on a circular walk through the Magical Valley of Diamonds, enhancing the scenic beauty of the Park with a touch of digital enchantment.
To offer visitors a unique visual treat, we also developed a temporary kaleidoscopic experience which transforms the everyday view through the binoculars into a high-contrast, colourful spectacle. By moving the binoculars left and right, users can manipulate the kaleidoscope, shifting and changing the real world view into a mystical scene filled with vibrant patterns and colours.
Meet the Yomis!
For the main attraction, we calibrated animated AR ‘Yomis’ – whimsical, gnome-like characters – onto the rock faces of the cavern. These Yomis were designed to interact with the environment and the viewers in playful ways, such as standing on a swing, waving at the AR goats and hiding from a gigantic purple dragon who eventually turns his attention to the viewers. These interactions encouraged visitors to explore and search the landscape through the binoculars, uncovering surprising and delightful AR moments scattered throughout the trail.
The primary goal during this project was to enhance the visitor experience at Europa Park by integrating cutting-edge technology with the park’s natural and themed environments. We created a memorable and interactive adventure for visitors of all ages, utilising augmented reality to bring a new dimension of engagement and wonder to the theme park.
Encouraging exploration and curiosity, the AR binoculars allow guests to discover hidden AR surprises and immerse themselves in the magical world of the Yomis. By blending the physical and digital realms, we sought to create an AR visitor attraction that was not only visually stunning but also engaging and entertaining.
Our quest to unite the digital with reality
The Yomi Adventure Trail has been a fantastic success amongst visitors so far. During the first three weeks of the installation, the AR binoculars attracted 14,000 users, demonstrating the popularity and appeal of a magical theme park augmented reality installation. Visitors of all ages have enjoyed the playful interactions with the AR Yomis and the kaleidoscopic views, rendering the trail a highlight of their Europa Park experience.
This installation demonstrates the potential of AR technology to transform traditional park experiences into something interactive, immersive and exciting, whilst maintaining a light technological touch – no downloads or additional purchases necessary. Zubr are delighted in our contribution to the enchantment and wonder that Europa Park continues to offer its guests.
