Augmented Reality

Bring 3D content into the real world. Explore the powerful interplay between the physical and digital with our most popular type of content.

Engage audiences with remarkable augmented content.

Zubr is one of the leading Augmented Reality (AR) studios in the UK, having completed more than 50 AR projects since 2014. Augmented Reality creates the illusion of eye-popping 3D content existing in the real world. Whether it reveals the hidden scenery of a historic building, creates a portal to another world on your bedroom wall, or makes a music artist pop up on a beer mat – augmentation offers a powerful, user-friendly experience.

Get playful tying 3D content to physical anchors

Quite the opposite to virtual reality, physical objects and your surroundings can make an AR experience all the more effective. We worked with Oracle to augment data stats directly onto a scale model of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car, allowed Battersea Power Station visitors to peer into an augmented art deco control room, and even let potential customers try products at home before making a purchase.

That doesn’t mean that all AR content needs to be tied to a physical image or object. Now is a better time than ever to create augmented reality content that doesn’t require a tracker image. This means we can augment your content anywhere, at any scale – perfect if you fancy exploring Cardiff Bay’s gigantic historic ships at life size, or peering inside a faithful miniature of Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep Mossy Bottom Farm.

Cross-over with virtual reality

To take augmentation a step further, we use virtual reality headsets with ‘passthrough’ cameras to augment content in believable stereoscopic 3D. This makes an affordable and accessible alternative to the Leap Motion and Hololens, and also allows us to combine the immersion of a VR headset with the real-world interaction of augmented reality.

Technologies we use

Android ARCore and Apple ARKit are our primary formats for developing AR. We make use of the latest features and SDKs across both platforms, including Image Tracking, Object Detection, People Occlusion and Depth APIs.

For camera passthrough experiences, we use the Google Daydream Mirage Solo, Oculus Quest, and Samsung/Android smartphones. High-end mixed reality devices including the Magic Leap, Hololens and ZED Mini can also be used.
