Explore the dunes in an entirely new way with Zubr Binoculars
VR binoculars at Duinpanne Nature Reserve
Nestled in the scenic town of De Panne on Belgium’s west coast, the Provinciaal Bezoekerscentrum Duinpanne offers visitors a gateway to explore the region’s extraordinary dune landscapes, coastal biodiversity, and forest trails. As part of a new interactive experience, AV integrator Ocular partnered with Zubr to help transform how visitors engage with the natural world in Provincie West-Vlaanderen – through virtual reality binoculars.
Partners
For the experience in Provincie West-Vlaanderen, Ocular partnered with Zubr to deliver an exciting nature themed experience for the dunes.
Working on the concept development, Ocular provided us with the video content for the experience. With three sets of Zubr’s binoculars placed across the dune landscapes, we covered the software development for our hardware, transforming Ocular’s content into a binoculars experience built on tight collaboration.
We chose to work with the Zubr Binoculars to give every visitor to the outdoor tour an insight into life in the dunes. It is an accessible way for young and old alike to discover what is happening in the landscape because there is more to it than you would think at first glance. The cooperation with Zubr went very smoothly and it was great to see the idea come to life.

Onsite support in Belgium
While Ocular provided creative content, Zubr was brought on board to supply and support the VR binoculars installation, showcasing our ability to collaborate flexibly with AV integrators and technology companies.
We delivered two customised Zubr binocular units, strategically installed across the nature reserve to offer immersive vantage points into the local ecosystems, telling the story of the formation of the dunes and how they develop over time. Our collaboration involved close coordination with Ocular’s developers to ensure seamless integration and a smooth user experience.
To ensure everything went off without a hitch, Zubr’s 3D developer, Jake, travelled to Flanders to support the installation and configuration. His onsite presence was vital for testing, calibration, and optimising performance in the field – an example of our commitment to supporting our partners in person, wherever they are.
Technical features tailored to the landscape
The Zubr binoculars installed at Duinpanne feature:
- Environmental cooling fans, designed to keep internal systems operating smoothly in varying outdoor conditions.
- Durable, weatherproof casings for long-term reliability in coastal weather.
- A custom finish to blend visually with the natural aesthetics of the site.
These bespoke touches ensure that Zubr’s binoculars remain functional, discreet, and visitor-friendly year-round. Customisation is part of Zubr’s package, ensuring our innovative hardware is perfectly paired with our client’s needs.
A partnership model you can trust
This project highlights one of Zubr’s greatest strengths: the ability to provide robust, state-of-the-art hardware solutions that work in tandem with third-party XR content providers. Whether working with in-house teams or technology partners like Ocular, Zubr will deliver ready-to-integrate hardware solutions, offer in-depth technical support to streamline deployment, and travel to your site for hands-on troubleshooting if required.
The VR binoculars at Duinpanne are more than just a viewing device – they’re a gateway to discovery. From birdwatchers to casual hikers, visitors now enjoy a layered perspective of one of Belgium’s most beautiful natural reserves, made possible through creative collaboration and Zubr’s hardware expertise.
