Acropolis AR
Zubr’s Acropolis AR app is a new augmented reality experience that brings the iconic ancient Greek monument to life.
After three years of development, multiple trips to Athens and close collaboration with academic partners, we are proud to unveil this powerful piece which serves as a framework for immersive interpretation of other historical sites.
Visitors to the Acropolis of Athens will be able to access our groundbreaking 1:1 augmented reality overlay of the whole Acropolis site as one continuous experience.
Users at home can also explore our augmented reality Parthenon, Erechtheion, Propylaia, Sanctuary of Artemis and Chalkotheke as they would have appeared in the 5th Century, and walk the paths that connect them.

Zubr self-funded the Acropolis AR app, pouring our extensive 3D expertise into this educational experience.
Zubr showcased the project in Summer 2024, at a two-day Bristol University conference focused on ‘New Directions in Classics, Gaming and Extended Reality’.

Explore the entire Acropolis site in its former glory
Bring a miniature 3D model of the Acropolis citadel into your living room anywhere in the world. Users can travel across to globe to Athens, to inspect the augmented reality ruins as they appear on site today. By selecting each in turn, watch as the ruins transform, gradually reconstructing your own ancient Greek monuments in augmented reality, piece by piece.
Expanding each monument also allows for a closer look. Users can pinch and zoom to examine every little detail, as well as exploring the information tab to learn about the history and purpose of each monument. The interactivity of Acropolis AR ensures these hidden details wow and inspire visitors and at home users alike.
Bring history to life in the classroom
Our elegantly-designed A2 tabletop print can accompany the Acropolis AR app. One side features an overview of the history behind the five different monuments, whilst the reverse shows an aerial view of the acropolis site as it would have appeared in the 5th century, alongside a QR code to access the AR model.
Once scanned, the print magically springs to life as an incredible 3D model for pupils to examine in detail. Up to twelve pupils can examine and interact with the model simultaneously using tablets.
Our academic consultant has ensured the educational material within the app adheres to the KS2 and KS3 curriculum.

The Acropolis is a site of immense cultural significance and broad appeal, drawing visitors from a variety of demographics. To ensure everyone can fully experience its rich history, we ensured our AR binoculars are fully compatible with the AR Acropolis app. Whether visitors are standing under the Greek sunshine or exploring indoors, they can enjoy a glare-free, unobstructed view of our stunning augmented reality reconstructions through a dedicated, portable device.
